Smart film is made up of a layer of PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) material sandwiched between two layers of conductive material. When an electric current is applied to the conductive layers, the liquid crystal molecules align, allowing light to pass through and making the film transparent. When the electric current is removed, the liquid crystal molecules scatter, blocking light and making the film opaque.
